Buenos Aires Blog 6

Monday June 26:

Hey y'all, it has been some time since we have last updated you on our adventure here in Buenos Aires. On Friday, we had a full day of classes. To start off the day, we went to an English class with our host brothers. Afterwards, we went to a specialty class on Argentinian culture. During this class, we all sat in a circle, drank some Yerba mate, and discussed different aspects of Argentina, such as the education style of Argentina and the proper way to prepare and drink Mate. Afterwards, we all went to a class on soccer. We learned the history of the two major teams in Argentina, Boca Juniors and River Plate. These two Argentinian teams are rivals and their fans get very passionate as to who the better team really is. Afterwards, we all went to a literature class and discussed a story they had recently read. Afterwards, we welcomed Señor Joyce to our group and said goodbye to Señora O'Neil. We were all sad to see Señora leave, but we were excited for Señor Joyce to be with us as he went on this trip himself when he was a student at BC High.

Over the weekend, the majority of us went to Pilar to spent time with our host families. On Sunday, we all went to a barbecue together and played soccer. We had a really nice time playing soccer (and even doing some parkour on one of the brick walls) and listening to Declan and Jake jam out to songs like Love Yourself, Despacito, and Bohemian Rhapsody for everyone. Afterwards, we all went back to the city of Buenos Aires and later went to a movie premiere. The movie we were seeing starred a student from Colegio del Salvador who we had all met previously. While it was hard for all of us to understand the movie at times because of the lack of English speaking or English subtitles, we all found it to be a very interesting movie.

On Monday, we had another full day of classes with our host brothers. We went to a variety of classes that day from Chemistry to a Logic class to a Philosophy class. We also attended a specialty class in Argentinian politics. In this class, we talked about the style of government of Argentina, the leadership, and the history of the Argentinian law. It was very fascinating to learn about because it gave us insight on many of the things that we have seen in Argentina thus far.
To continue with the note on Rubik's cubes mentioned in the last two posts, we are very close to having everyone being able to solve Rubik's cubes. With the exception of 1 or 2 of us, we have all become very efficient at solving it and plan on helping those final few kids learn how to solve a Rubik's cube.
